National cadet Corps conducted its Annual all island level “De Soysa” Girls Assessment Camp on 07th October 2017 at the National Cadet Corps Training Centre, Rantembe under the patronage of Mr. Sunil Hettiarachchi the Secretary, Ministry of Education. 39 Cadet Platoons competed for the De Soysa Challenge Trophy. These platoons had been selected from Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Girls Assessment Camps conducted through out the year at the National Cadet Corps Training Centre.
Addressing the parade Mr. Sunil Hettiarachchi pointed out the importance of specially girls engaging in this type of extra curricular activities. He further said”, Today most of the parents motivate their children for only academic education. Children are exam oriented and as a result there is a big competition today, but in the future most of the jobs available today will not have demand because  of rapid development occurs in the world. Parents should be able to understand this and transform the routing of the Children as to adapt the oncoming situation.
The secretary awarded trophies to the winning platoons of the competition. Maliyadeva Girls College, Kurunegala become the champion platoon of the Assessment camp while Gothami Balika Vidyalaya secured runners-up  position. Devi Balika Vidyalaya , Colombo Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy and Danthure MV, Kandy  placed third, fourth and fifth of the competition respectively. Lt. TTW Abeykoon of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy was awarded the best commander (Squad Drill) trophy at the presentation of awards ceremony.

Major General AKP Wickramasinghe USP Director National Cadet Corps , Deputy Director and Senior Officers of the corps, Principals, Parents and old Cadets participated in the ceremony.
