JAYA SRI NIWADU NIKETHANAYA" (HOLIDAY BUNGALOW) NCC CEREMONIALLY OPENED

NCC SENIOR OFFICERS WEAR THEIR DUE RANKS

Five Senior Lieutenant Colonels of the National Cadet Corps were promoted to the rank of Colonel with effect from 01st June 2011. These Senior Officers wore their due rank of Colonels at a ceremony held at the Headquarters, National Cadet Corps under the patronage of Director National Cadet Corps, Major General GBW Jayasundara RWP RSP and the President of NCC SevaVanitha Unit Mrs. Priyanthi Jayasundara.This occasion is believed to be a remarkable one of the Corps history. NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

The New Year Festival of the NCC was held in a grand scale at the NCC Training Centre, Rantembe on 17 April 2011 under the patronage of the Director NCC Major General GBW Jayasundara RWP RSP and Mrs. Priyanthi Jayasundara, the President of Seva Vanitha Unit of National Cadet Corps.More info>>

RANGA SARANIYA

Cultural programmes were organised by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the NCC throughout the country and from the cadets of 18 battalions. Selected items were brought to Colombo and were shown in public at John Silva Memorial Hall at the inaugural 'RANGA SARANIYA'. The Chief Guest was the First lady , Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksha. A notable inclusion was newly enlisted cadets from Jaffna district also performed alongside their southern counterparts.

DEYATA KIRULA

"Deyata Kirula" National development exhibition took place from 02 February 2011 to 11 February 2011 at Monaragala site parrellel to the Independence day celebration.

Large crowds gathered to witness this exhibition during this period. The NCC has had its stall within the area allocated to institutions under the purview of Ministry of Defence. It was a huge success and large crowds gathered at the NCC stall and for the physical activities organised by the National cadet Corps.

REACTIVATION OF CADETTING IN NOTHERN PROVINCE

After a period of 30 years , the people in Northern province were liberated from the LTTE terrorists and the situation is gradually becoming normal. The school children were victims of terrorism. They were not being able enjoy the privilages that their brothers and sisters in Southern areas enjoy.

Cadetting was a very popular extra curricular activity in Jaffna. The first director of the NCC Major General EW Thevanayagam VSV was a product of Jaffna Hindu College and was a cadet.

On the instruction of the Ministry of Defence, a project was planned and a team of officers was sent to jaffna in early January 2010. After some presentations carried out by NCC team of officers, 42 school children were enlisted as cadets of 5 battalion NCC and taken to NCC training Centre Rantembe for initial band training.

The second stage of this project was to carry out presentations to people in Vanni 611 brigade area in Vavuniya. The team of officers from the NCC left for Jaffna after they completed the task given to them. The end result of this stage was to take the boy cadets (02 from each school )to be taken to Rantembe for a basic training. 88 students paricipated for that and 8 teachers accompanied them.

The Security Forces Headquarters (J) and (w)and the civil administration have been very helpful in making this project a success.The next stage will be launched in late June
