The present Director of the NCC is Major General Gamini Jayasundara RWP RSP,  who has completed more than 30 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army leads the institution to a naval dimension under the guidance of Secretary Ministry of Defence.

The main branches of the headquarters are General Staff Branch, Administration branch and Logistics Branch. The headquarters of the NCC is the brain behind all the activities of the NCC. Under the Director NCC Colonel GS who heads the training matters, Colonel AQ who is responsible for all administration and logistics matters work round the clock to take the NCC to greater height. Officers at various levels hold staff appointments in aforesaid branches. The Other Rank staff at the HQ derive from Tri-services on ERE basis and civilian staff serve at HQ as Computer Operators, Drivers  and Labourers.
