Marking another proud chapter in the 145-year history of the National Cadet Corps, Stage I of the Junior Girls’ Provincial Assessment Camp concluded successfully with a ceremonial passing-out parade held at the Rantembe Training Centre on 26 August 2026.
A total of 35 Junior Girls’ Cadet Platoons representing the Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Northern Provinces participated in this year’s assessment camp, where their skills, discipline and cadet competencies were evaluated through a series of competitive events.
The passing-out parade was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Tharangi Gunawardhana, while Major Anuradha Rathnayake of the 04th Battalion served as the Second-in-Command.Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major ,Warrant Officer I SMBW Sammanee, representing the Southern Province, also took part in the parade.
The parade was further enhanced by the rhythmic performance of the Eastern Band Girls’ Platoon of Sir John Kotelawala College, attached to the 04th Battalion, adding colour and grandeur to the occasion. The cadet girls displayed a high level of discipline, commitment and pride throughout the parade.
Based on the overall results of the competitions conducted during the camp, the outstanding cadet platoons representing the five provinces were recognised as provincial champions and runners-up.
In the Uva Province, the championship was secured by Yashodhara Girls’ College, Bibila, of the 15th Battalion, with a total of 642.83 points. The runner-up position was secured by Kuruwitanna Maha Vidyalaya of the 06th Battalion, with 539.32 points.
In the Southern Province, the championship was won by Debarawewa National School of the 24th Battalion, recording an impressive 817.32 points. Mahinda Rajapaksa College, Matara, of the 16th Battalion, secured the runner-up position with 764.32 points.
In the Sabaragamuwa Province, the championship was secured by Kolonna National School of the 08th Battalion with 632.50 points, while Dharmapala College, Kegalle, of the 09th Battalion, secured the runner-up position with 626.65 points.
In the North Western Province, Sir John Kotelawala College, Kurunegala, of the 04th Battalion, emerged as the champion with 706.65 points. Senanayake Central College, Madampe, of the 35th Battalion, secured the runner-up position with 695.66 points.
In the Northern Province, the first place was secured by Padavi Sripura Aliwanchuwa Maha Vidyalaya of the 22nd Battalion with 547.14 points, while Padavi Parakramapura Buddhanga Maha Vidyalaya, also of the 22nd Battalion, secured second place with 468.66 points.
Colonel Amil Liyanage, the Senior-most Officer of the National Cadet Corps and the present Commandant of the Rantembe Training Centre, attended the passing-out parade as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the cadets at the parade, the Chief Guest expressed his hope that the journey they undertake as cadets, together with the valuable experience and training gained through the National Cadet Corps, would provide them with the foundation to become responsible citizens and future leaders capable of providing the country with the right leadership it needs.
The assessment camp served as a valuable platform for the Junior Girl Cadets to develop discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility and resilience, while providing them with meaningful experiences and a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
