Major General A.K.C.S. de Silva RSP ndc officially assumed duties as the 16th Director of the National Cadet Corps on 05 October 2026 at the National Cadet Corps Headquarters.
The newly appointed Director assumed office following a religious ceremony held with the blessings of the Maha Sangha and the chanting of Seth Pirith.
Major General A.K.C.S. de Silva studied at K/ Rajaguru Sri Subhuthi Maha Vidyalaya , Kalutara Tissa Central College and Panadura Sri Sumangala College.
During his school career, He showed keen interest and ability in both education and sports. Thereafter he joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 15 July 1993 and successfully completed Officer Cadet Course No 40 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and subsequently he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 07 November 1995 and joined the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
Over the years, he has held a number of important appointments in the Sri Lanka Army. These include Commander of 233 Infantry Brigade, Head of the Wing at the Directorate of Research, Analysis, Projection and Development, and Commandant of the Combat Training School, Ampara, among other senior appointments.
He has also completed a number of local and overseas military courses and also he has served as an United Nations Peacekeeping Observer Officer in Haiti and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2006 and 2014 respectively. Alongside his military career, Major General A.K.C.S. de Silva RSP ndc has pursued higher education in several fields.
His academic qualifications include,
Master’s in Public Administration and Management – University of Colombo
Master’s in Human Rights – University of Colombo
Master’s in Security and Strategic Studies – General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University
Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling – University of Colombo Senior Level Defense Management – Devi Ahilya University, Indore, India
Certificate Course in Health Care in Detention – Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand
He also played a vital role in several major military operations conducted against LTTE terrorism, including Riviresa, Kinihira, Ranagosa and Jayasikuru. In recognition of his bravery and service on the battlefield, he was awarded the Ranasoora Medal on three occasions.
Following his assumption of duties, the new Director addressed officers, cadets and civilian staff at the Headquarters Auditorium and he emphasized the importance of working together to achieve the objectives and vision of the Corps.
The members of the National Cadet Corps who attended the occasion warmly welcomed the newly appointed Director and extended their best wishes as he begins his new responsibilities.
